The director uncovers her artist uncle’s hidden world and begins filming his life — alongside him. Their journey toward a cinematic dialogue brings surprises and creative joy, showing that living true to oneself matters more than external approval.
As a child, Karin Pennanen lived below her uncle Markku, a multi-talented visual artist, musician, and composer who largely vanished from her life. Years later, while studying film, she considered making a film about him, but it only became possible after his death. Days of Wonder explores his never-exhibited drawings, notes, compositions, and recordings, revealing the many sides of her gifted, solitary uncle. Using archival material, the film creates a moving posthumous dialogue and tribute between niece and uncle.
