On the eve of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the country confronts its Soviet past. Actor Sergiu Voloc attacks Lenin statues, attempting to awaken a collective consciousness.
Every day, Sergiu Voloc puts on Lenin’s costume to welcome visitors to a museum of communism. But outside work, armed with a sledgehammer, he fights to remove Soviet statues from public spaces. His strained relationship with his parents, the precarious life of an actor, and confrontations with institutions put his emotional balance to the test. Blending observational footage with docu-fiction and performance, the film follows an actor’s transformation into an activist who challenges a society caught between its Soviet past and its European aspirations.
