Audiovisual diary of Ukraine’s immersion into the abyss of the total war, comprising scenes captured over the span of two years in different proximities to the frontline. Songs of Slow Burning Earth are composed from places, occasional characters, rare dialogues, intraframe sounds and silences that, put together, allow to trace the subtle changes in the tone of society. It develops from the ragged chords of the panic and horror during the first weeks of the invasion, into the numb stillness of acceptance of death and destruction of the war that eventually becomes a normality for the locals and an afterthought for the rest of the world. On the backdrop of this ultimate (meta)physical landscape of collective disaster, a new generation of Ukrainians aspires to imagine the future.
