Jamie Coughlin Silverman, Gabriel Silverman / United States / 2025 / 94 min
What was it like to live with a brother who was an informant, without even suspecting it? Starting from his brother's case, the film outlines the complex system of the Stasi secret police in East Germany—an experience that left its mark on all societies across the Eastern Bloc.
Starting from his own story, historian Peter Keup investigates the mechanisms of surveillance that marked his family. Access to archives and meetings with former Stasi officers, including the institution's last leader, shape the portrait of a regime built on control and suspicion. A documentary about the deep scars left by betrayal and the desire to uncover the truth, long after the fall of the dictatorship.
