Alexandra Bidian / Germany, Romania / 2025 / 91 min
A former political prisoner from Sibiu who emigrated to Germany dreamed of becoming Romania’s president after the fall of communism. Years later, his daughter revisits his life through archives and personal memories.
Alexandra returns to the places of her childhood between Germany and Sibiu to better understand her father’s life - a theologian, former political prisoner, who remained deeply connected to Romania and was convinced that the country could have a different future. Through family photographs and films, letters and his Securitate file, the portrait of a man emerges, caught between the great hopes of the 1990s and the complexity of his private life. Her journey into the past becomes an attempt to discover the people we love beyond the image they leave behind.
