Artificial Intelligence — Imminent Danger or Apocalyptic Marketing Scheme?
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) spreads rapidly across thousands and millions of directions and aspects of life, massive disruptions and errors are beginning to emerge, casting doubt on the effectiveness, perfection, trustworthiness, and investment in AI solutions. And influential voices—the most vocal AI experts—continue to warn of an imminent danger in the near future, in which AI will take over decision-making from humanity.
This DocTalk addresses and explores possible answers to the questions: Is there a real danger that Generative AI will take control of society at the decision-making level, or is this merely a science-fiction-apocalyptic marketing ploy to promote AI products within the factories of knowledge capitalism? What are the possibilities and mechanisms through which human control over knowledge and decisions regarding human society can be regulated and maintained?
The DocTalk will take place before the screening of “Elon Musk Unveiled,” a film about how errors in Tesla’s AI-driven autopilot systems—which have resulted in fatal accidents—are used to train the car’s AI systems. The discussion will also touch on the other three films in the selection, which show how AI is infiltrating our daily lives and privacy (“Replica,” “Everything We Tell Each Other,” “How to Talk to Lydia”).
