How some French citizens of Jewish ethnicity, recently resettled in Netanya, Israel, live in the context of rising antisemitism in France since the beginning of the war. On a day at the beach, the author asks where they truly feel at home — in order to speak about identity and the sense of home in their case.
About the film
After the outbreak of the war in Gaza, there was an exodus of Jews from France to a luxury resort in Israel, seeking a better and, paradoxically, safer life, as they felt threatened by attacks from Arab immigrants in Europe. Amid the war, life in Netanya seems like a dolce far niente: teenagers attending Israeli schools at one point aspire to fight for their new homeland, while the older residents enjoy early retirement. The film succeeds in offering a unique perspective on the situation in Israel.
