In a school in Tel Aviv for refugee children, fourth-grade students learn about responsibility, identity, and democracy, while the Israeli state is in no hurry to grant them identity cards, even though many of them were born there, leaving their present and future uncertain.
About the film
Currently, over 30,000 refugees live in Israel, mainly from Eritrea and Sudan, and most of them hold only temporary residence permits. More than 8,000 of them are children who were actually born in Israel and, paradoxically, do not legally belong to the country they live in. Filmed entirely in a school for refugees, the film illustrates Israel’s political situation and the State’s policy toward immigrants in an ironic and intelligent way, drawing from lessons and various school scenarios, including the spontaneous remarks of 10-year-old children.
