The Fable of the Turtle and the Flower

We follow a woman and her friend during her final year of life, after a terminal cancer diagnosis, turning the documentary into an intimate reflection on the fragility of existence. Self-reflexive and lucid, the film captures not only moments of closeness and support but also the act of filming itself — focus adjustments, discussions about exposure — which become visual metaphors for life and impermanence. Rather than indulging in sentimentality, the director focuses on the everyday: domestic scenes, children’s play and presence, spontaneous humor, and mundane rituals that take on unexpected weight.
