Aline Helmcke, Veselina Dashinova / Bulgaria, Germany / 2024 / 20 min
Two artists from opposite ends of Europe explore their past, debating East-West preconceptions and imagining the future.
Aline, raised in East Berlin, and Veselina, from Bulgaria, share memories and perspectives about Europe. Through letters, personal archives, and animation, they explore differences in mentality between East and West and how these have shaped their lives. Attempting to merge their visions, they build a cardboard spaceship, a symbolic space from which they view the planet and imagine a better future. The film reflects on identity, memory, and the dream of a united Europe.
