A Separation at Astra Film Cinema
What really happens between two people who have been married for almost four decades and are getting a divorce and perhaps should have ended their relationship many years before?
The film A Separation / Att Skiljas (directed by Karin Ekberg), which will be premiered in Romania at Astra Film Cinema on Thursday, March 30th, at 7 PM, is a tragicomedy that presents the final acts of an overlong marriage. The film was granted the HBO Invisible Camera award at BIDF – Budapest International Documentary Film Festival.
Every ending is a new beginning!
The film captures the enticement and bashful joy of a new beginning after an anticipated and longed for ending. Director Karin Ekberg closely looks into a year of her parents’ life. A year like no other, the year right before their divorce. Lena and Kjell have been married for 38 years, but they have been living separately for more than 15: they sleep in separate rooms and the intimate moments have gone completely. “She quit kissing me more than 15 years ago! How do you live with someone without kissing?”, Kjell rhetorically asks in front of the camera.
The house where the two of them had lived is already put up for sale. Is it ok to throw away your wedding gown? The wedding ring can be tucked away in some drawer, where you don’t look that often. What will you do with the “ugly” crystal glasses no one wants? The things are divided up before the eyes of their daughter, who witnesses this process from behind the camera. One by one, the pieces of furniture, the carpets, the pictures on the walls, the lamps disappear, leaving the house empty. The sadness of this scene quickly dispels. Once they move into their new homes, both Lena and Kjell are immediately on the rebound after the divorce.
One ticket is 6 lei. Tickets are available 30 minutes before the screening at Astra Film Cinema (Piața Mică 11, Sibiu). For further information, call: 0751.166.516
